Hands-On Earthen Plastering Workshop to Benefit Sustainable Fairfax

On adobe_plaster.jpgFriday October 2nd, 2009, Sustainable Fairfax hosted a hands-on Earthen Plastering workshop by Jeffrey Adams at our beautiful Sustainability Center.

Participants joined us for an interactive and inspirational afternoon learning about and playing with earthen plasters while supporting the good work and community leadership of Sustainable Fairfax. Jeff began the day with a short slide presentation and discussion covering a spectrum of earthen building materials and applications. Then we transitioned outside to put the ideas to action applying a Hybrid Adobe plaster to protect the Center’s cob bench. Hybrid Adobe is a low-cost, easy to use, fun to apply technique with a wide range of applications including weatherization, insulation, fire retardant, and artistic sculpting.  Participants came away with skills and knowledge to start mixing and applying hybrid adobe to their own projects.
