Please bring as many tomatoes as you can harvest out of your garden or find at the Farmers Market. Remember, we'll be canning them, so they don't need to be perfect!

In this workshop, we'll learn everything we need to know about preserving our own food. Carissa will be discussing various food preparation, preservation and storage techniques. Then, we’ll dive into methods of drying, and dry some herbs to go with the canned tomatoes that we will be processing using the water bath canning technique.

We’ll also talk about pressure canning and safe food handling, as well as the infinite number of resources to help you customize and compile your food preservation file, and find tools and supplies. We will also be making and canning a “water bath-safe” salsa! We will be canning using a water bath technique so that everyone can take some home by the end of class.

Good Earth Natural Foods

good_earth.gifGood Earth Natural Foods in beautiful downtown Fairfax since 1969 has been continually offering our local community the finest organic foods we can procure. You won't find us listed on the New York Stock Exchange, nor are we going to open a store in neighborhoods all over the Planet.

We simply want to sell our customers foods grown and processed using the radical but ancient concept, care. Often care takes a back seat to the pursuit of the almighty dollar.

We feel that this is wrong and shortsighted. We offer foods grown and prepared using a minimum of processing and no chemical pesticides or food additives. If we cannot meet this ideal with a certain food item, we get as close as we can and make as much noise as we can to change it for the better. We always endeavor to remember that food contains spirit.
