Rebekah Collins Steps Down after Eight-year Term
FAIRFAX, CA – March 21, 2007 - Sustainable Fairfax, an educational non-profit promoting social, economic and environmental well-being in the town of Fairfax, has opened a search for a new president to lead the organization through an exciting period of expansion and deepening community involvement.
The executive board of Sustainable Fairfax encourages applications from candidates well-networked in the Marin community, with an emphasis on organizational management, civic involvement and environmental advocacy. This is a volunteer position, best suited for an individual with time to attend various events and act as a spokesperson for the organization.
The post becomes available with the departure of Rebekah Collins, the organization's co-founder, who had served as president since 1999. Though stepping down her role, Ms. Collins, a long-time global warming activist and founder of Marin CAN (Clean Alternative Energy Now), will continue working with Sustainable Fairfax in an advisory capacity.
"Rebekah Collins has been a visionary leader and a great support to Sustainable Fairfax," said Executive Director Pam Hartwell-Herrero. "She created a foundation for grassroots action that we continue to build upon, as we work with the residents of Fairfax to preserve an active community, a strong local economy and our environment for the enjoyment of future generations."
The incoming president will be responsible for helping oversee
several upcoming community projects, including the development of a
Sustainability Center at 141 Bolinas Rd. in Fairfax. Scheduled to open
in the Fall of 2007, the center will provide the Fairfax community with
information and resources for helping promote the town's unique
character, catering to businesses, residents and the natural spaces
shared by all.
Currently, Sustainable Fairfax holds monthly community education
events in conjunction with various other Marin organizations. Projects
such as the Sustainable Backyard classes have been made possible by
support from the Marin Community Foundation, Hal Brown, and local
individuals and businesses.
